There's not long to go now as the opening date has been revealed for a new Home Bargains store in St Albans.
Construction is continuing at Alban Park on Hatfield Road as the site of the former DIY and Garden store is transformed into a new retail shop.
This week, fresh banners have appeared surrounding the site with Home Bargains branding that read "OPENING Saturday, May 9, 2026".
The display also advertises the store is now recruiting with applicants encouraged to send a message to job.shomebargains.co.uk to find out more.
Owner of Home Bargains, T.J. Morris Limited has now begun focusing on the administrative side of business too, as the company has applied for a premises licence with St Albans City and District Council.
The application requests the sale of alcohol at the future Home Bargains shop from Monday to Sunday between 6am and Midnight.

Homebase shut in March 2025 and fresh plans were then submitted in May earmarking the Alban Park unit for a Home Bargains store - these are yet to be approved, but changes can be made without permission due to the building previous use.
Documents attached to the plans show a comprehensive refurbishment of the building and layout comprising a new shopfront, sprinkler tank, pumphouse, trolley shelter; and associated works.
At the Hatfield Road site, signage belonging to Oakhurst UK can be seen on the fencing - a Southport-based building company that specialises in shopfitting.
Home Bargains believes that the upcoming store will contribute "positively" to the St Albans area and "secures long-term occupation" of the existing retail unit.
"The proposed store when opened, would retain / generate up to 100 full and part-time job opportunities," a supporting statement attached to plans reads.
"The high-quality, modern retail unit and shop fit out proposed will result in additional investment in the local economy."
TJ Morris Ltd - which trades as Home Bargains - promises an investment exceeding £3 million into the shop.
Home Bargains is a UK discount retailer offering a wide range of branded products at low prices across categories like homeware, health and beauty, food, toys, clothing, and garden items.
