Residents are being invited to a talk in St Albans on the role and impact of the modern pilgrimage.

Prominent environmentalist and broadcaster, Martin Palmer, will host the 'Conscious Pilgrimage' talk at Marlborough Road Methodist Church on Friday, June 21, from 2pm to 4.30pm.

Mr Palmer will showcase how pilgrimage sites have been made more eco-friendly, demonstrating its contemporary relevance.

The event will take place the day before the Cathedral’s annual Alban Pilgrimage.

There will also be opportunities to discuss individual contributions to making the world a better place, through actions like lowering carbon footprints or volunteering at community shelters.

Nigel Pate, the St Albans School of Philosophy’s leader and organiser of the event, said: "As we know from our own courses, our community is full of wonderful people, professionals and volunteers, with first-hand experience of trying to make the world a better place."

Tickets can be purchased on the School of Philosophy website at
