Plans for firefighters to share their Norfolk station with volunteers trained to help with emergencies have been lodged.
Norfolk County Council has applied to its own planning department for permission to make the necessary changes at Loddon Fire Station.
It would see a new mobile building put in place at the fire station in the town's High Street, which would be occupied by a first responders group affiliated with the East of England Ambulance Service.
First community responders are trained volunteers who attend 999 emergency calls in their communities.
Because they live in the local community, they can often arrive more rapidly than an ambulance, providing assessment and treatment until ambulance crews arrive.
The group would use the fire station as a base and would offer medical support in emergencies.

Documents lodged with the county council state that the mobile building would be based at the fire station temporarily, for up to five years, while a permanent base for the first responders is established.
Norfolk County Council will make a decision on whether to grant permission in due course.
