Road closures are among the key public notices in Stevenage and North Hertfordshire that are set to affect residents.

1. Essex Road in Stevenage

Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an order temporarily banning traffic from Essex Road in Stevenage from its entire length northwards and south westwards from its junction with Julians Road.

The closure is to enable works to be carried out, and no alternative route will be available.

The order would come into force on May 13 for a period of up to 18 months, though the roads will only be closed at specific times rather than constantly. Closure times will be specified on signs on or near the roads.

2. Bearton Road in Hitchin

Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an order temporarily banning traffic from Bearton Road in Hitchin between its junction with the A600 Bedford Road roundabout and its junction with Ickleford Road.

The closure is to enable bridge inspection works to be carried out, and an alternative route will be available via A600 Bedford Road, A505, Grove Road, Water Lane and Periwinkle Lane.

3. Eldefield in Letchworth

Hertfordshire County Council has made an order temporarily banning traffic from Eldefield in Letchworth from its junction with Wilbury Hills Road to its junction with Bursland.

The order will come into force on April 29 for a period of up to 18 months, though the roads will only be closed at specific times rather than constantly. Closure times will be specified on signs on or near the roads.

4. St Marys Way in Baldock

Hertfordshire County Council has made an order temporarily banning traffic from St Marys Way in Baldock between its junction with Chilvers Bank and its junction with The Leas.

The closure is to enable works to be carried out, and no alternative route will be available.

The order will come into force on May 1 for a period of up to 18 months, though the roads will only be closed at specific times rather than constantly. Closure times will be specified on signs on or near the roads.

5. Meadow Way in Hitchin

Hertfordshire County Council intends to make an order temporarily banning traffic from Meadow Way in Hitchin for 20m south westwards from its junction with Wratten Road West.

The closure is to enable an existing gas mains to be replaced, and an alternative route will be available via Wratten Road West, A505, Willow Lane, Charlton Road, Hawthorn Close and Meadow Way.
