Describing her tenure as "a privilege", the headteacher at Oakwood Primary School in St Albans, is set to retire after 23 years.
Ms Zoë Buckley will leave the school at Easter, having led the school since January 2001.
Describing her early days in the role, she said: "At the time there were 266 children on roll. Having expanded, today there are 315 children on roll.
"I've seen many changes - I think teachers were still using chalk on blackboards when I first came to the school and now all have interactive whiteboards!
"Music and sport have always been a high priority. I've loved going to the Saturday morning netball tournaments, the swimming galas and sharing in the success of our teams over the years. We have a trophy shelf to be proud of!"
A leaving fun run took place on Wednesday (March 20), with all proceeds donated to Youth Talk - a St Albans-based charity that provides counselling for 13-25 year olds.
The school has raised £735 so far.
"We have always prioritised pupils' wellbeing and increasingly so since Covid, hence the decision to support YouthTalk in my Leaving FunRun," Ms Buckley continued.
"I enjoy being active, as do my staff and we all hope the children will find a physical activity they will pursue into their adult life - many already do."
In a letter of resignation, Ms Buckley continued: "During my two decades I have many achievements, highlights and a legacy I’m proud of.
"Over the years, I have taken considerable pride in seeing the progress and development of all our pupils.
"I have also gained tremendous satisfaction from supporting the development of staff and senior leaders and seeing them flourish.

"All bar one of my deputies have gone on to become successful head teachers, and of course, the collaboration of the whole school community to achieve our 'outstanding' Ofsted judgement in 2014 was truly fantastic!
"It has been a privilege to work with such a dedicated staff team, eager children and supportive parents and governors."
Lastly, the headteacher left a message for the school's new leader: "Mrs Thompson, my current deputy is taking over the headship so, along with the talented and committed staff team the school continues to be in safe hands and I wish everyone well."
