A 24-year-old man has been disqualified from driving for a year after pleading guilty to drink driving during a crash in Markyate.

Sameer Ghafoor, of Larkway Close in north London, appeared at St Albans Magistrates’ Court on Friday (March 8), where he was also ordered to pay costs and a victim surcharge totalling £120.

The crash had taken place at around 5.30pm on Friday, September 15, when a black Mercedes and a black Audi collided on the A5183 southbound.

Ghafoor, who was driving the Mercedes, was arrested at the scene and taken to custody.

He will have the opportunity to reduce his driving ban by three months if he completes an approved rehabilitation course.
