A 46-year-old man has been charged with three assaults on police officers and criminal damage, following a reported incident in St Albans.

Hertfordshire police attended Maynard Drive at 9.21pm on Tuesday, January 30, following reports of a "violent male" in the area.

Leslie Palmer, of Abbots Avenue West, was arrested and later charged with the alleged offences.

He is due to appear at St Albans Magistrates' Court next Friday (February 16), at 2pm.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: "Team 2 Neighbourhood Policing Team (formally known as the Safer Neighbourhood Team) continue with their proactive patrols in St Albans targeting vehicles committing road traffic offences.

"It didn’t take us long to catch two uninsured drivers, before we helped our intervention colleagues with a violent male in Cottonmill who was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and assaulting three police officers."
