A man has been charged with robbery after a passenger pulled a driver from his car, before driving off in Hemel Hempstead.

The incident took place during the early hours of Saturday, January 13, in Paston Road.

At that time, a man was giving another a lift, when the passenger pulled the driver out of his vehicle and drove off in it.

The vehicle was recovered later that day.

Following an investigation, David Payne was arrested on Wednesday, January 31.


The 40-year-old from Waveney, Hemel Hempstead, has been charged with robbery, driving without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

He appeared before Hatfield Magistrates’ Court today (Friday, February 2) and was remanded into custody.

He is next due to appear before St Albans Crown Court on Monday, March 4.
