A Ford Transit van has collided with the central reservation during a crash on the M1.

The incident took place prior to 6.10am this morning (Monday, January 22) on the motorway's southbound carriageway, between junction 9 for Redbourn and junction 8 for Hemel Hempstead.

The outside lane was blocked, with traffic stopped until around 7.30am when 60 minute delays and nine miles of congestion were reported.

No injuries were reported, and the van was recovered by 8.37am.

All lanes have now been now re-opened.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: "Police were called at around 6.10am today (Monday, January 22), following reports of a single-vehicle collision on the M1.

"The incident happened on the southbound carriageway between junction 9 and 8, when it is reported that a white Ford Transit van had collided with the central reservation, blocking the outside lane.
