Children aged four to six are invited to join a new Squirrel Drey run by 1st Wheathampstead Scout Group.

The Squirrel Drey was opened by district councillor Simon Johns, who cut the ribbon and congratulated the group for offering a "wonderful start for youngsters in the parish".

Parish council chair Steve Haynes and parish councillors Anne Howle, Linda Halford and Ann Chance-Read were also in attendance.

Ann Chance-Read, who is chair of 1st Wheathampstead Scout Group, welcomed everyone and introduced and thanked Squirrel leader Jenny Hanks, who was a driving force in getting the group off the ground.

Cllr Chance-Read said: "Her enthusiasm and dedication has given boys and girls aged four to six of Wheathampstead an opportunity to join the scouting movement and enjoy the outdoor life."

Ann thanked group scout leader Karen Oxley, assistant group scout leader Matt Bolton and Catherine Fraser for their help and support.

So far 10 children have joined the group, and there is still space for 20 more.
