Five kittens have been saved by police officers after they were abandoned near Wheathampstead.

The animals were found in Waterend Lane on Friday, December 22, when officers were approached by members of the public, concerned for their welfare.

Police took the kittens back to the station, where checks were carried out by a vet.

The adorable felines have now been rehomed after being initially taken in by staff at Hertfordshire police's Force Communications Room and St Albans-based intervention officers.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: "Five kittens found abandoned in Waterend Lane, Wheathampstead, were taken in by staff in our Force Communications Room and St Albans intervention officers.

"The animals were taken back to the police station where checks were carried out and they were checked by a vet before being re-housed."
