Malcolm Wickens, a Neighbourhood Watch member from St Albans, has been given an award by the chief constable of Hertfordshire police.

Hertfordshire Constabulary revealed yesterday (Tuesday, December 19) that Charlie Hall had rewarded the volunteer for his "hard work over many years".

As a volunteer, Malcolm looks after the St Albans district and has a team of people who volunteer alongside him.

Mr Wickens has been encouraging residents to become Neighbourhood Watch members, to help prevent them from becoming victims of crime.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: "St Albans has over 20,000 members that receive messages from Neighbourhood Watch and the police, which is 35 per cent of households in the district.

"Well done to Malcolm for his continued hard work."
