Hertfordshire police have arrested a 44-year-old man following reports of ATM fraud in Borehamwood.

After being called at around 4.50pm on Wednesday (November 29), officers were dispatched to the Leeming Road area.

Once there, CCTV operators were able to direct police to a vehicle of interest parked nearby.

Items associated with ATM fraud were then found during a search of the vehicle.

A 44-year-old man from Morden in London was arrested on suspicion of fraud.

He has been released on police bail while further enquiries are carried out.

Detective Sergeant Colin Knowles said: “I’d like to thank the person who reported their concerns to us, enabling us to quickly make an arrest.

"This is another great example of how we work with our colleagues at the council to help keep the town safer.

“In the run up to Christmas, we’re urging people to please remain vigilant when out and about.

"Be aware of anyone acting suspiciously around you when using ATMs or car park payment machines, especially anyone who claims the machine is broken and offers to assist.

“If you witness any suspicious activity, please report it to police or security staff straight away. If a crime is in progress, call 999.”

The CCTV operators, who led police to the vehicle of interest, were working as part of the Hertfordshire CCTV Partnership.

Cllr Christian Gray, of Hertsmere Borough Council, added: " “Particularly during the lead up to Christmas, it is important we all look out for each other and remain vigilant to suspicious activity to prevent crime.
