A public bridleway in St Albans has been closed by Hertfordshire County Council, due to building works at Oaklands College.

The path, near North Drive, runs through the college's St Albans campus and has been closed to ensure public safety.

The local authority and Oaklands College are now working together to "urgently" open a temporary route between Sandpit Lane and Hatfield Road.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire County Council said: “We have agreed to Oaklands College’s request to temporarily close the public bridleway that runs through their campus, as building works are taking place next to the public right of way and it would not be safe for the public to be using it while work is happening.
