Harpenden Choral Society is holding an open rehersal next month, with budding singers invited to take part.

The open rehearsal will take place at United Reformed Church in Vaughan Road from 8pm to 10pm on Tuesday, September 12, with participants asked to arrive at 7.45pm.

Singers will perform Handel's Dixit Dominus and Scarlatti's St Cecilia Mass. Admission is free and scores will be provided.

Harpenden Choral Society was founded in 1975 and currently has around 75 members, and is looking to recruit new members in all voice sections.

Free singing lessons are also offered to new joiners under the age of 30, while reduced subscriptions are available to those under 30, full-time students and anyone in receipt of income-related benefits.

The choir's 2022 to 2023 season included a sell-out performance of Handel's Messiah in November, a highly praised performance of Faure's Requiem and Vaughan William's Dona Nobis Pacem in March, and a summer concert which included Rheinberger's Mass in Eb and Brahms' Song of Destiny.

The choir's forthcoming season includes a performance of Haydn's Nelson Mass and the Duruflé Requiem, a Christmas carol concert and a collaboration with Onyx Brass.
