A man has sadly died following a crash on the A414 between Hemel Hempstead and St Albans.

At around 5.50am this morning (Monday, August 28), an Audi collided with the road's central reservation.

Emergency services attended the scene, and road closures were put in place on the A414, and Breakspear Way at the junction of Green Lane, Hemel Hempstead.

The only occupant of the Audi was pronounded dead at the scene.

A 37-year-old man has since been taken into custody, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He remains in custody at this time.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: "Police were called just after 5.50am today (August 28), to report a road traffic collision on the A414 between Hemel Hempstead and Park Street.

"It is reported that an Audi travelling southbound collided with the central reservation. Road closures are in place on Breakspear Way at the junction of Green Lane.

"Sadly, the sole occupant of the Audi was pronounced dead at the scene.

"His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by our officers.

"A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He is in custody at this time.”
