The Hardynge Choir in Harpenden is putting on a workshop and concert to celebrate Hertfordshire's musical heritage.

A 'Sing Local' workshop will take place at the St George's School hall in Sun Lane at 10am on September 2, while the 'Our Fair Ladies' concert will be held at St John's Church in Markyate at 7pm on September 23.

The concert will feature the world premiere of 'Three Songs' by president Sasha Johnson Manning, based on three poems selected by members of the choir and celebrating 10 years under musical director Rufus Frowde.

Other pieces include 'The Wicked Lady' by Hitchin composer Richard Sisson, based on highway-woman Lady Katherine Ferrers of Markyate Cell, Alan Lerner and Frederick Loewe's 'My Fair Lady' medley based on Pygmalion by Ayot St Lawrence resident George Bernard Shaw, and 'Spring Will Come Again' by Wheathampstead composers Joanna Forbes and Alexander L'Estrange - as well as Tudor anthems by William Byrd and Thomas Tallis associated with Hatfield House.
