Tickets are now on sale for a "brilliant" TEDx event in St Albans.

The show will take place in St Albans' Abbey Theatre, from 9am until 5pm on Thursday (October 26).

A number of guest speakers will take to the stage, along with the event's host - the BBC's Martine Croxall.

TEDx is an offshoot of TED, an organisation which began in 1984 as a conference focussed on technology, entertainment and design.

Now TED Talks are increasingly popular, with industry professionals giving expertly crafted talks on a range of subjects.

Popular speakers range from Microsoft founder Bill Gates to famous comedian Al Murray.

TEDx events allow TED-like presentations to be made by a range of speakers to the local community, on a variety of topics.

"It’s an opportunity for local people to learn together and create positive change in their lives, along with those of others.

Another co-organiser, Cheryl Luzet - CEO of Wagada Digital - added: "We are excited to bring TEDx to St Albans, a vibrant city which is the home to many great minds and inspirational leaders, in what is a very accessible format of delivering talks and sparking debate that everyone can get involved in.

"We hope to embed this event into the St Albans calendar of yearly events to nurture and inspire local talent.”

Lastly, co-organiser Patricia Seabright of Archimedes Consulting, commented: "I have been a huge fan of TED talks for many years.

"They stimulate, educate, and entertain.

"I also believe that the ability to speak well is a master skill, vital to influence and effectiveness.

"The TED concept is all about ideas worth sharing and is a showcase for being able to articulate those ideas in a compelling and punchy way.

“So, I am delighted that we are able to bring this brilliant event to St Albans so that our city and district, indeed all of Hertfordshire can revel in this opportunity to engage with creative ideas and enjoy this opportunity to be part of the global TED community.”
