A Hemel Hempstead couple have sold their day nursery, having run the establishment for the past 30 years.

Sherryl and Mac McMichael established Moor End Farm Day Nursery after Mac constructed a purpose-built nursery on their farmland, surrounded by animals.

Sherryl had previously been running a childminding business out of their family home.

For three decades, the nursery has provided care to for children aged from three months to five years.

They have now completed a sale to childcare group Kindred Nurseries.

Kindred's CEO, Ruth Pimental, said: "We are thrilled that Moor End Farm has joined our growing Kindred family.

"It further extends our footprint in the East of England, and we know it will be a great match for the rest of our group.

"Sherryl and Mac’s passion was evident from the start.

"They were keen to know that the nursery would continue to be looked after and further developed.

“We are looking forward to working closely with the Moor End Farm team over the coming months as we warmly welcome them into our family.

"Excitingly, this acquisition adds 60 to our overall capacity and takes our growing number to 36 locations (and one Out of School Club).

"It will bring opportunities for our family to continue to grow and flourish towards our goal of being the very best childcare provider in the UK.”

Helen Wong MBE, of Setfords solicitors, assisted the couple with the sale.

She added: "I am delighted to have assisted the Sherryl and Mac on this transaction.

"It was a pleasure to work with them and to help them achieve a successful outcome.

"I wish them all the best for the future, and I look forward to seeing Kindred continue to grow and thrive in the nursery sector."

Coming to the end of their careers, it was important to Sherryl and Mac that the staff and children of Moor End Farm Day Nursery were "not disrupted and there would be an orderly and smooth handover".

On retirement, Sherryl and Mac commented: "We can now see the light at the end of the tunnel."
