The CEO of a Harpenden company that designs and builds satellites has been shortlisted for an international award.

Spacechips founder Dr Rajan Bedi has been nominated to become the Global Entrepreneur of 2023.

The company creates "advanced satellite and spacecraft communication products", along with offering design consultancy, avionics testing, technical marketing, business intelligence and a range of training services.

Dr Bedi founded Spacechips in 2014, fulfilling his "childhood ambition of using space technology to help society".

The company's inventions have gone on to win awards such as High-Reliability Product in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Spacechips itself was named as the Start-Up Company of 2017, whilst Dr Bedi was awarded Great British Disruptive Entrepreneur of the Year in 2020.

Nine years on from its creation, the company has delivered to 73 clients in 26 countries.

Spacechips has also contributed "space-based solutions to key societal challenges such as Climate Change, Digital Divide, Food Sustainability, Disaster Management, Wildfire Detection, Sustainable Mining, Smart Transport and Healthcare".
