Just under £3,000 has been raised following a mobility scooter convoy in St Albans city centre.

The convoy - which involved 45 mobility scooters and 60 motorbikes - took place on Sunday (June 18).

Raising money for St Albans District Shopmobility, 'Choppers for Shoppers' travelled from St Peters Street to the Ye Olde Fighting Cocks and back again.

St Albans District Shopmobility is a scheme in which battery-powered scooters and manual wheelchairs are provided to those who require them in order to visit the city centre.

During the event, 14 pubs and local businesses were visited, which had been collecting for the charity.

The Dean of St Albans gave the group a blessing at St Albans Cathedral, and told a motorcycle joke.

"All the good people of St Albans were so generous, not just waving us through town but also filling our buckets."

A world-record attempt for the largest number of mobility scooters in one place has also been planned for later in the summer.

Over 200 mobility scooters, riding in unison, can be expected.
