Fancy volunteering at one of St Albans' historic hidden gems?

St Albans South Signal Box is holding a special open day on Sunday, May 21 from 2pm to 5pm for prospective new members and volunteers.

The St Albans Signal Box Preservation Trust that looks after the restored Grade II signal box and its surrounding garden is run entirely by volunteers, who maintain the site and show the public around on open days.

Following the lead of King Charles III, the Trust is hoping to recruit new members to its team.

Trust chairman John Telford said: "St Albans South is often considered to be one of the city’s hidden treasures and we are keen to continue the good work that has been undertaken over the last few years.

"No previous experience is necessary – an interest in railways would be an advantage but is not vital – and a variety of activities can be undertaken."

Full details can be found on the Trust’s website together with booking arrangements.
