An U13s rugby team has raised over £1,000 after a former player took his own life.

Hector Stringer had once played for Tring RFC, and his untimely death sparked a meeting at the organisation's club house.

The U13s squad were introduced to 'Hector's House', a local charity set up by the family of the late-teenager.

Neil Stapley, a parent and former coach, told The Herts Advertiser: "The money was primarily raised during the annual U13s rugby tour, to the sum of £1,017.50.

"Teenagers can often be cast in a dull light.

"This act of benevolence highlights that they do want to make a difference, and will actively support something that they are passionate about."

A formal handover of the cheque will take place on Sunday, May 14.
