Walking in the footsteps of golfing legends, a 10-year-old boy from Harpenden is set to represent the UK in the IMGA Junior World Golf Championships.

The competition will take place on July 11 at Shadowridge Golf Club in San Diego, California.

The event has previously been won by the likes of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, and claims to be "the largest international event in the world".

It annually sees 1,250 golfers, from 56 countries and 42 states, take part.

Darcy Eaton, who usually plays his golf at Harpenden Common, will compete in the event.

Darcy already competes for The British Junior Golf Tour, and finished in the top two of his age category at a recent qualifying event at Cambridge Country Club, on April 16.

It was the Harpenden boy's performance in Cambridge that secured his seat on the plane to San Diego.

Darcy recorded a score of 84 on the day, just four over Leo Taylor's winning score of 80.

Layton Riches - of Sandhill - came third in the competition, with a score of 86.

Both Leo - of Ormskirk - and Darcy will compete in the Boys 9-10 category in San Diego.
