International Women's Day might have come and gone, but every day is a day to celebrate women and their inspiring careers.

Over a hundred people from the St Albans business community came together at the Aubrey Park Hotel to celebrate International Women's Day last week.

The lunch event was hosted by St Albans District Chamber of Commerce.

It featured an inspiring speech from Emma Henderson, who drew on her 30 years of experience in the air - from her RAF career to her role as a commercial airline captain for easyJet.

Emma also talked about the valuable lessons she learned when it came to juggling flight training with three young children and being a military wife, as well as how to lead with humility and authenticity, and the importance of prioritising her own wellbeing as she faced a life-threatening illness.

She then joined a panel of esteemed guests to discuss topics including equity, equality, leadership, wellbeing, women’s health and balance.

Pat Strods, dhamber president, commented: “What an amazing event. Captain Emma Henderson was an inspirational speaker and the contributions of both our panellists and guests led to lively, thought provoking and worthwhile discussions.

Events coordinator Regina Rodriguez added: “The chamber would like to thank everybody who attended and the sponsors, Contrasol, Metro Bank, Rayner Essex and SA Law whose support have made this event possible.”

A raffle run on the day raised over £1,000 for the Herts Domestic Abuse Helpline, a confidential, free, support and signposting service for anyone affected by domestic abuse.

The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day was #EmbraceEquity.

St Albans District Chamber of Commerce said online: "Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.

"A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated.

"Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #EmbraceEquity."

The event was open to all and men were encouraged to attend.
