The restaurant is owned and run by Harpenden friends Matthew and Michael, who grew up in the town.

According to the Michelin Guide: “Assured modern British dishes deliver bold flavours.

"Sunday lunch is an event.”

“Outstanding presentation, bold flavours and inventive tweaks on classic dishes” are described, while “the staff may be laid-back but they know their food and drink – the Cup’s wine list is diverting, stretching as far as Georgia and Canada.”

The Silver Cup dates back to 1838 and offers food, drinks and overnight stays.

Four en-suite bedrooms are present at the location.

The interior of the pub underwent a refurbishment during lockdown, shortly after Matthew and Michael took over the lease.

Owner and general manager Michael Singleton said: "We are thrilled to be listed on the latest Michelin guide and to be recognised for the hard-working efforts of the team at The Silver Cup.

"Since reopening the restaurant in 2020, we have gathered a loyal following of guests who have supported us; they love our takes on classic dishes and the passion that goes into every plate of food, in the laidback and welcoming environment.

"It’s great to be praised by the industry and we will continue to improve the dining experience in 2023 and beyond.”
