One of the men found guilty of GBH after attacking a man at a mosque in St Albans was a councillor on London Colney Parish Council.

Mohammed Mortuza, 50, was one of five men found guilty of GBH with intent at St Albans Crown Court last month.

He also pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice by encouraging a co-defendant to lie to police.

The attack occurred on June 4, 2020. A 48-year-old man from St Albans was lured to the Jamie Mosque in Hatfield Road by baiting phone calls and social media messages, before he was seriously assaulted.

Mr Mortuza and the other defendants will be sentenced at St Albans Crown Court on Friday, February 3.

London Colney Parish Council declined to comment at this time.
