Staff from Westminster Lodge leisure centre have raised over £5,000 for men's health charities for Movember.

The 'Westmin-stache Warriors' - a group of 12 managers, gym instructors and other staff members - grew moustaches for the month of November for a number of good causes.

Westminster Lodge's centre manager Lesley Garner commented: "We are all very proud of the boys for growing these unsightly moustaches and putting up with itchy upper lips in the name of charity -  and for raising so much.

"But we're pleased it's over and the 'taches have gone!"

The staff members' effort wasn't the only November fundraising event to take place at Westminster Lodge last month, as Peter Hensman rowed 150km for Dementia UK and Alzheimer’s Research UK.

After raising almost £3,000 during his 'Row-vember' challenge, he said: "My body is tired – I have burned nearly 10,000 calories and lost about 6kgs in weight as I rowed for just over 10 hours to complete my challenge.

"The fabulous team at Westminster Lodge, organised by Fiona Bibby, also ran a 12 hour ‘rowathon’ on November 28.

"Participants rowed as far as they could in 15-minute blocks.

"We managed a fantastic total of 100,702m and raised an extra £250 for Dementia UK.

"I would like to thank everyone that has offered me encouragement this month and for all the generous donations made to Dementia UK and Alzheimer’s Research UK.

"Even with the high cost of living at the moment, this amazing support has helped get us very close to the £3,000 we raised in 2021 for these two fabulous charities.

"Look out for an even bigger event in 2023!"
