A St Albans distillery has revealed a 'Remembrance Gin' to raise money for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal.

£4 from the sale of every bottle of the Spirit of Hertfordshire product will go to the charity.

Along with appearing on the bottle's label, poppy seeds have also been used throughout the gin's production.

Distiller Richard Osmond explained: "Poppy seeds are a really useful gin botanical - not for any specific aroma, but more for their overall effect.

"A gin distilled with crushed poppy seeds will be creamier and more silky-tasting, flowing more slowly over the palate as it is swallowed, allowing the drinker to experience the gin's other subtler botanical aromas with greater intensity."

The design for the bottle has been inspired by St Albans Abbey, Richard continued: "Our classic Alban Spiced Rose Gin is inspired in part by St Albans Abbey - its traditions, its beautiful rose window.

"To me, the Abbey has also always had an association with Remembrance Day - as a one-time student of the neighbouring St Albans School, I attended many a Remembrance service there and saw many wreaths of poppies being laid.

"So it made perfect sense that our gin could also pay tribute and take part in Remembrance."

The distillery's owner, Richard Daniel, added: "We were very eager to use our position as St Albans' foremost distillery to remember and pay tribute to the sacrifice of previous generations, and to raise some funds for those currently in need.

"So we've created a special gin with a highly collectible limited edition poppy themed branding."
