St Albans MP and deputy Liberal Democrat leader Daisy Cooper has joined calls for a General Election to be held following Prime Minsiter Liz Truss' resignation this afternoon.
Liz Truss took to the infamous lectern outisde 10 Downing Street earlier today to announce she would step down within the week, launching another leadership contest for the Conservative party.
She said: "I recognise I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party.
"I am resigning as leader of the Conservative Party. There will be a leadership election to be completed within the next week.
"I will remain as Prime Minister until a successor has been chosen."
After the news broke, opposition policitians have been calling for a General Election to be held, including Labour leader Keir Starmer.
St Albans' Daisy Cooper took to Twitter and said: "After the damage that Johnson and Truss have inflicted on our country, the very last thing we need is *yet* another Conservative PM. We need a #GeneralElectionNow and a change of government."

1922 Committee chairman Sir Ian Brady has said a leadership result is expected by Friday next week.
Hitchin and Harpenden MP Bim Afolami has been approached for comment.
