Travellers have been given permission to occupy green belt land in Sandridge.
The decision today (Monday, October 17) will see five gypsy families permitted to use the site, each with one static caravan or mobile home.
A layer of hardstanding - surfaced area to park vehicles on - will also be put in place.
The site behind Ardens Rise, on House Lane, already has a number of static caravan pitches for travellers to utilise.
An application for five more caravans or mobile homes - on an adjoining piece of land - was turned down in March 2020.
At the time, the development was deemed an "inappropriate development" at a meeting of St Albans City and District Council's planning referrals committee.
This decision has now been overturned, following an appeal.
An appeal decision notice from the Planning Inspectorate read: "The appeal is allowed and planning permission is granted for the change of use of land to use as a residential caravan site for five gypsy families each with one static caravan/mobile home, including laying of a hardstanding at land rear of Ardens Rise."
