There was to be no giantkilling for Potters Bar Town as their run in the FA Cup ended with a 3-0 defeat by Hampton & Richmond Borough in the second qualfying replay.

The Scholars had came within six minutes of beating the Beavers on Saturday but the Vanarama National League South side made their senior status show at the Pakex on Tuesday night.

A tight first half ended goalless as both sides found it difficult to break down resolute defenses in front of a crowd of 179.

George Nicholas tried early on from distance for the hosts before the visitors carved out three half-chances, all failing to seriously test home keeper Berkeley Laurencin.

Nicholas then tried again from distance, again without luck, as the game settled down.

And as it did the visitors found themselves enjoying much more possession but unable to break down the Bar defence, marshalled well by Steve Browne and Sean Grace.

It took three minutes of the second half for the Scholars’ resistance to break.

Laurencin had turned the ball around the post for a corner but was left helpless when Jack Cook lashed the ball into the roof of the net.

Ten minutes later it was 2-0, a powerful shot across goal by Malachi Napa beating Laurencin and Hampton sealed the victory late on thanks to Sean McAuley.

League action returns for Potters Bar on Saturday when they go to Bowers & Pitsea in the Bostik League Division One North.
