ELDERLY people had to be evacuated from their care home yesterday (Monday) afternoon after some cooking is believed to have gone wrong.
Firefighters were called to Oak Tree Manor in Waverley Road, St Albans, at around 5pm and when they arrived they found the top floor of the nursing home heavily smoke-logged and the elderly residents in the process of being evacuated.
It is believed that a pan had nearly caught fire in the staff quarters of the home.
The fire crews from St Albans helped to evacuate all of the elderly people from the affected floor but did not need to move the remainder of the residents.
They ventilated the property before leaving the scene.
