THREE more St Albans schools are jumping with joy after receiving first-rate A-level results.

St Albans Girls School (STAGS) described its results as "some of the best in the last five years" and both Sandringham in St Albans and Roundwood Park in Harpenden were equally delighted.

STAGS head teacher Chris Murrell said the school was delighted for its girls and the results were a testament to their hard work and the dedication and excellence of the teaching staff.

She said the school was particularly pleased that one student who had a very traumatic family issue to deal with had gained four A grades and a place at Imperial College.

All students with Oxbridge places had received the grades to take them up and a significant number of students gained their first choice place at university.

Sixth formers at Sandringham also notched up record results once again. Most gained their first choice university places and there were many exceptional performances with eight students gaining straight As in all their subjects.

Head Alan Gray said: "These results demonstrate the outstanding effort students have put in to their studies and the high quality of learning and teaching provided by staff at the school. What is really pleasing is the number of students gaining places at our top universities."

Nick Daymond, head of Roundwood Park School in Harpenden, said he was delighted by the achievements of this year's cohort of A-level results.

He went on: "Well over a dozen students achieved A grades in every subject. However, I also want to recognise the life-enhancing skills, talents and qualities developed by all our students which don't get certificated.

"We're very proud of their academic success but equally heartened by the fact that we have helped to prepare well-rounded and caring individuals for the next phase of their lives and careers.
