A GROUP of intrepid friends, all members of Garden Fields Cricketers, are cycling 300 miles in memory of their friend Westy and to raise money for Grove House.
The group, who are on target to raise 5,000, dreamed up the idea one cold winter’s night in a local pub when a summer bike ride seemed like a good idea.
The seven cyclists David Clamp, Nick Bennett, Chris Parker, Paul Wilkinson, Phil Smith, Rob Walter and Mark Bunting, supported by back-up team Duncan McAllister, Gary Fisher and Martin Ferguson will be leaving Grove House early next Wednesday morning, July 7, to cycle to the tiny Devon village of Sheepwash – a distance of some 300 miles which the group plans to cover in just four days.
The friends have been loyal supporters of Grove House since one of the team Ian West, known as Westy, died from pancreatic cancer two years ago at a very young age.
Duncan said: “Westy was always raving about the care, support and attention he was given at Grove House.”
One of the group, Gary Fisher, recently moved to Sheepwash (hence the destination for the ride) to set up a bed and breakfast business, the Lake Farmhouse, where the friends will be staying at the end of their journey.
Gary is generously offering a 15 per cent discount to anyone who makes a booking and mentions Grove House. Visit www.lakefarmhouse.co.uk
