ROBIN Hood and his band of merry men kick-started a local park’s open air theatre season last weekend.
The Walled Garden at Shenley Park on Radlett Lane hosts a series of plays and picnic concerts every summer and on Saturday, the Cambridge Touring Theatre transformed the amphitheatre into Sherwood Forest for their production of Robin Hood.
The family theatre company entertained a sun-soaked crowd with tales of Robin Hood and his battles against the Sheriff of Nottingham, and when the show was over everyone was invited to enjoy some home-made apple juice, fresh from the orchards of Shenley Park.
Head gardener Liz Ensor said that Shenley Park was the place to be on a sunny afternoon: “Our amphitheatre, which was built about 15 years ago, is such a nice spot to enjoy outdoor theatre and we’ve got a great range of family-friendly acts coming up. We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for good weather every weekend!”
As well as productions such as The Secret Garden and Much Ado About Nothing next month, Shenley Park has also arranged a Supersonic Sunday on July 4 when chart-topping English indie rock band The Magic Numbers will headline an outdoors concert.
