AN EMPTY van smashed into two cars and a home after it rolled down a hill on yesterday (Wednesday) morning.
The white Ford Transit careered into Grindcobbe Close, Cottonmill, at around 7.20am causing substantial damage to a green Ford Focus and a black Peugeot 206 parked in its path, before it struck a maisonette property.
A police spokesperson said that initial investigations indicated that the van’s handbrake had failed.
St Albans district council were called in to assess the damage to the house. A spokesperson confirmed that the council owned the maisonette and said that the van had struck the rear corner of the gable end wall.
She continued: “The property was deemed ‘safe’ and the repairs will be carried out by council contractors, following a full assessment of the damage by a structural engineer. The tenant should be able to remain in the property.”
