LOCAL people flocked to take full advantage of the district’s attractions last weekend as part of the ninth St Albans Residents First Weekend.
The cold weather did not deter the high number of curious residents eager to experience the area’s top tourist attractions for free and try new leisure activities or restaurants at a discounted price.
All attractions taking part reported a successful weekend with the free guided walks with the St Albans Tour Guides proving to be one of the most popular events. Exhibitions at the Museum of St Albans, which included Knights in the Museum and Do you Remember the 1960s?, attracted a record number of visitors and the restored signal box next to St Albans Station was also inundated with visitors who were able to see how a signal box operated.
St Albans tourism manager, Charles Baker, said: “It was a fantastic weekend and lots of people said they had a really enjoyable time. Some attractions have said they had their best weekend ever with more visitors attending over the weekend than they’ve had before.”
