A LADYBIRD infestation sparked an evacuation of St Albans Abbey yesterday (Thursday) afternoon.
The insects had made their way into the smoke detectors of one of the church’s towers and triggered the alarms to go off at around 3pm.
St Albans firefighters were automatically called to the scene to check for fire but were instead met with swarms of ladybirds.
