NEARLY �4 million has been allocated by the government to repair roads in the county following the winter’s severe weather which has left them littered with potholes.
The sum was revealed by St Albans MP Anne Main following an announcement in the recent budget and details of how highways authorities spend the money has to be published on their websites by the end of September.
Mrs Main said: “I welcome this additional funding for urgent pothole repairs in Hertfordshire and I am glad that this issue, which affects us all, is receiving the attention and resources it needs and deserves.
“Frankly our road services are a disgrace – cars are damaged, cyclists endangered and the place looks a mess.”
She added: “One of the most common grievances I hear from people on the doorstep is the hundreds of potholes which blight our local roads and I hope this money will go some way towards tackling our enormous problem.”
