AROUND 100 police officers and volunteers were searching the Batchwood and Verulam Road areas yesterday in a hunt for a vulnerable man who has been missing for more than 96 hours.

Alan Spray, 73 (pictured right), disappeared from an address in Verulam Road, St Albans, at around 8.10pm on Saturday and his family are very concerned for his welfare.

He is described as white, around 5ft 9ins tall, balding on top with grey hair to the side and wearing glasses. He was wearing a brown and blue checked short sleeve shirt and beige trousers and he might be carrying a book.

His daughter Anne Lowe said that he had been watching TV and had just disappeared. He had no coat, ID and only 10 in cash on him.

Police admit they are very concerned about his disappearance and among those who were out searching for him yesterday were volunteers from the Midshires Search and Rescue Team who have given up a day’s pay to join the hunt.

A police spokesperson said that what they really needed was for anyone who might have seen Alan to contact them on the non-emergency number 101.
