A BATTERY-powered dog helped a St Albans school pupil to glory at the Peckham Film Festival over the weekend.

Oscar Simmons, 12 (pictured), entered the SE15 Young Film Makers Competition, which is open to film enthusiasts under the age of 25.

His film, titled Dog, scooped the award for Best Drama after leaving one judge in tears.

The Beaumont School pupil said: “The film is about an old lady, who is lonely until she finds a toy dog. I got the idea from my great auntie Debbie who is similar to the lady in the film.”

All the entries were played to a packed-out Peckham Plex and judges then picked the winners.

Judge Marriane Gray said of Oscar’s film: “If I’m crying about a robot dog who runs out of batteries, there is something very special about this film.”

Oscar now hopes to on to film school, with a view to becoming a film director in the future.
