TWO men have been arrested following an assault on a train close to Harpenden station last month.

The victim of the assault was left with a broken nose after an unprovoked attack at around 3.10am on Sunday, August 5, just as the First Capital Connect train approached Harpenden station.

The attackers, who were caught on CCTV camera, were thought to have got off the train at Harpenden around 10 minutes after the attack and left the area by taxi.

British Transport Police (BTP) released CCTV pictures of three men they wanted to speak to and launched an appeal for information after the attack. This week they confirmed that a 23-year-old man from Hitchin and a 19-year-old man from Houghton Regis had been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

A spokesman said that both had been questioned and released on police bail pending further inquiries and thanked the media and members of the public for their help in identifying the two men.
