A COUPLE who were brought together in the midst of World War Two have celebrated 70 years of wedded bliss with a family party.

Alan and Lilian Clark took a trip down memory lane last week when they visited St Mary’s Church in Redbourn where they got married on April 1, 1943.

The platinum pair met as teenagers when Lilian was evacuated from London to the village during the war. They were both aged 18 when they tied the knot but had very little time to enjoy married life as Alan was sent away to serve in the Royal Navy the next day.

Alan and Lilian, who are still living in Redbourn, are now 88 and have one daughter, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Daughter Lena Hill said: “They have enjoyed life and get out and about when they can and do a lot of walking and gardening. They are still loved-up but of course they have their moments. They are chuffed to have reached 70 years.”
