A SUPERMARKET employee has been jailed for six months for using fake ID to work illegally in St Albans.
Mohamed Seynula used a fake document to apply for a position at Tesco Express in Beech Road last October after he had overstayed his visa.
The 31 year old, originally from Sri Lanka, was arrested at the store on April 23 and pleaded guilty to fraud charges at St Albans Crown Court on Friday.
Seynula, of Bohemia, Hemel Hempstead, will be removed from the country at the end of his sentence.
Immigration officer Jayne Levy, who led the operation to arrest the fraudster, said: “Seynula had applied through legitimate channels to remain in the UK, but instead of leaving the country when his application was refused he decided to pursue criminal options.
“He was intent on staying in the country even if he could only achieve his goal via illegal means.
“This case sends a clear message that people who ignore immigration law do so at their peril. They will be caught and they will be brought to justice.”
Anyone who has information about suspected immigration crime should contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
