THE front desk at St Albans police station will close next month in an attempt to save money, the Herts Advertiser understands.
It comes after Herts Police informed councillors earlier this year they were considering plans to shut the face-to-face counter service at the station on Victoria Street.
Several local councillors have vocally opposed the proposal saying it would lead to a breakdown in the relationship between police officers and the public.
It is believed the front counters at custody stations in Hatfield, Hoddesdon, Stevenage and Watford will be kept open.
