A man in his 70s has died after collapsing at Waitrose supermarket in St Albans.
The East of England Ambulance Service Trust (EEAST) was called to the store in Mayne Avenue yesterday (Tuesday) at 11.25am.
Richard Dunne, media officer for EEAST, said that two ambulances attended the man, after he collapsed at the site.
He was given CPR at Waitrose, but died upon arrival at Watford Hospital.
Richard said the man had suffered a cardiac arrest, and had hit his head as a result of his collapse.
David Martin, branch manager of Waitrose in St Albans, said that two members of staff, fully trained first aiders, had attended to the man after he took ill outside the supermarket, until an ambulance arrived.
He said “Unfortunately we were later informed that he had passed away. We were very sorry to hear this news and our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.”
A spokeswoman for the Herts Police said the service had been informed of the man’s death, but were not investigating it.
