A double Diamond wedding anniversary was celebrated at the council offices last week, as two couples, including a former Mayor and her partner embraced 60 years together.
Portia and Anthony Harris, and long-time friends Arthur and Barbara Nowell were joined by the current Mayor of St Albans Cllr Geoff Harrison last on Thursday, August 14.
The couples, each in their 80s, met through trips to the city’s twin town in Fano, Italy and said marking their anniversary together was “excellent”.
While Portia and artist Anthony met though council involvement, Arthur and Barbara met at a dance near Sevenoaks.
Arthur worked at de Havillands in London Colney testing aircraft engines and his wife was deputy head at Killigrew infants school where she taught for 20 years.
