Two men who pleaded guilty to corporate manslaughter of a man crushed to death at a St Albans building site have been sentenced.
Gareth Jones, 28, died while working on a development in Mile House Lane, St Albans, after his boss ignored a fellow worker’s warning that it was unsafe.
This afternoon (Thursday) Linley Developments from Welwyn Garden City appeared for sentencing in St Albans Crown Court after admitting to corporate manslaughter at an earlier date.
The company’s managing director Trevor Hyatt was given a six-month prison sentence suspended for two years, fined £25,000 and ordered to pay court costs of £7500.
Alfred Barker, the project manager, was also given a six-month prison sentence suspended for two years and ordered to pay court costs of £5,000.
Civil proceedings against the company are currently in progress.
Linley Developments Ltd released the following statement: “The company deeply regrets the tragic death of Gareth Jones. He was valued and trusted and is greatly missed. Our thoughts remain with his family and friends.”
