Staff and residents of a nursing home helped much-loved resident Irene Field celebrate her 100th birthday earlier this month.
Renee, as Irene likes to be known, has been a resident of Verulam House nursing home for the past four years.
She was born in St Albans and grew up in Albert Street where her dad owned the Garibaldi pub. She remembers helping her dad to take coal to local people on his horse and cart.
Ironically she never drank alcohol but has a very sweet tooth. Despite reaching her centenary, she enjoys sport of TV, plays the piano and enjoys trips to local garden centres with her family of two sons, four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
